All About Me…
I’m Rachel, a freelance content creator and engineer based in Nashville, TN.
I grew up in Andover, Massachusetts, a small town north of Boston, with my loving and supportive parents and my two older brothers. My mom started taking me to piano lessons when I was only four years old, and it was there my musicianship sprouted. My parents were sure to surround me with all of the music they loved, from Billy Joel to Styx to Elton John. I participated in jazz band for a short time, learning how to improvise and play with ensembles. I also played JV Softball and dedicated most of my free time to training. Working as a broadcaster for my local TV Station sparked my interest in audio and video production, I soon discovered Belmont through a google search while seeking a physics-based audio program. It quickly became my dream school, and I was accepted and began attending university in 2020.
A pivotal point in my college career was joining my best friend’s DIY solo project, Raccoon Junior. This was my first real band and an outlet to express myself creatively. I sang on stage for the first time while playing local venues I was often an audience member at. We recorded a full length record in the summer of 2023, and released it in the fall. I was involved in the recording process, produced a music video, and created promotional content. This was the most fulfilling semi-professional, social, and creative experience I have had in college, and it’s been a privilege to continue to contribute to this project post-grad.
I graduated from Belmont University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Audio Engineering Technology and Video Production in 2024. During my time at Belmont, I learned how to communicate and collaborate with others in a creative environment, sharpened my technical knowledge, and practiced my new skills regularly. I found community in the local DIY music scene through concert photography, playing in bands, and supporting local acts. Even though I’ve completed my degree, my desire to learn has grown exponentially as I seek educational opportunities outside of the formal learning environment.
Collaboration is at the center of everything I do. One of the biggest life lessons I learned during my time at university is that you cannot do everything yourself, and that’s okay! It’s okay to ask for help and lean on the strengths of the people around you. I am so grateful to have grown in a community of dreamers that love to learn! There truly is a magic that enters the space when a group of people come together to make music, whether that’s in the studio, during a show, in coffee meetings, emails, voice memos- I want to seek this magic actively in my career and social life, and I want to continue to play a part in it and contribute my unique experiences.
Currently, I am an Assistant Audio Technician under Travis Moore at Ocean Way Nashville and Belmont University. What began as an internship to fulfill a credit and explore an interest, transformed into a passion, a calling, and a post-graduate position. I also work as a freelance video editor for The Cast Collective, primarily working on narrative videos for clients and social media content. On top of my day jobs, I am a freelance photographer with an emphasis in artist and concert photography, and I am a budding freelance recording/mixing engineer. I love that I can use my different skills to have a hand in separate aspects of the industry. I look forward to furthering my education and collaborating with other creatives to contribute art into the world through a multitude of mediums.
